In exploring the work of some of my favorite artists, I was struck by how different their work looked over the course of their careers, and how much some of their paintings varied from their most identifiable work.

I wanted to collect all known works from each artist in one place, while also playing with AI's skill level.

I wanted to see if AI could convincingly replicate the style of famous female artists. I feed generative adversarial networks (GAN) models a series of iterative prompts centered on the work of Frida Kahlo and Remedios Varo. Turns out including including the words "Frida Kahlo" skews every output by adding flowers and bold colors, even when that conflicts with the details of the prompt. For Remedios Varo's work, I was surprised how easily AI could mirror the fantastical subject matter of many of her paintings.
